With support from the Center for Green Schools and USGBC, faculty and staff involved in Community Green are bringing these and other green building activities and opportunities to their campuses and communities.
Colleges who get involved with Community Green receive resources and direct support to:
Teach Green Building Coursework
Integrate LEED and green building coursework into your curriculum to prepare students for LEED credentials and careers in the green building industry. LEED Professional credentials indicate professional excellence and a strong depth of knowledge, and practical understanding of the LEED Rating System
Start a USGBC Students Group
Engage and organize students on your campus in creating a USGBC student group. Community college-based USGBC student groups receive support in facilitating hands-on project experiences and LEED credentialing opportunities.
Organize a Service Project – Green Apple Day of Service
Join thousands of individuals around the world on September 29, 2012 who will come together in support of healthy, sustainable schools by taking real action in their community. Colleges will receive support in organizing a Green Apple Day of Service project that will help engage and connect students and the community in sustainability efforts.
Facilitate Project-Based Learning Opportunities
Integrate hands-on learning experiences for students into curricular and co-curricular opportunities.
Join a local Chapter
Receive discounts for campus professionals to join your local chapter to stay up-to-date and involved in the local green building industry and opportunities. Local chapters provide connections with green building professionals in the region who can be great resources for colleges.
Create a LEED Project Profile and/or Campus Profile
Highlight the buildings and sustainability efforts on your campus through USGBC and the Center for Green Schools’ Web sites and networks.
Partner with other Colleges
Work with other colleges in your region or district on Community Green activities and other sustainability efforts to integrate sustainability and green building throughout your community.
