Illinois Working Group on Green Schools

In 2007, legislators in Illinois adopted the second state-level green cleaning policy for schools in the nation. Since then, House-Joint Resolution 45 has created a task force to pilot LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance certification in three Illinois schools. The task force will produce a report providing a model for implementing a state-wide campaign to green all existing public schools.

Chair, 2011 National Advisory Council for Green Schools Caucus Initiative

Chair, IL Working Group on Green Schools

“Hi, I’m Representative Karen May from Highland Park, Illinois. As state lawmakers, we have a paramount responsibility to make sure that our children are educated in healthy school buildings. In green schools, students learn about saving our planet and have the very best learning environment. This is an area where we need to lead – not follow.”
